Staffing
OHA typically has taken positions to oppose limitations on the subject of staffing, such as mandated nurse-to-patient ratio legislation.
OHA worked with the Ohio Nurses Association to develop House Bill 346, signed by Gov. Ted Strickland on June 12, 2008. This legislation provides staff nurses with significant input into the staffing process. It also gives hospitals the flexibility to establish a staffing plan that meets patient needs.
One of the resources used to assist Ohio hospitals with managing temporary staffing vendors is a statewide staffing program to help ensure the quality of nursing and allied health professionals and save hospital money on hourly rates and administrative costs. It was developed by OHA Solutions, a subsidiary of the Ohio Hospital Association, and gives access to high quality, affordable temporary staff that can provide alternatives to mandating overtime or closing beds.
